M.V. Donovan believes deeply in the promises of democracy and leadership and has a personal conviction that protecting them requires a re-discovery of curious civic debate. The Civic Compass and the coming DiploBrats series are the author’s attempt to make a contribution to that vision. Donovan has chosen to use a pen name, at least until retirement from government, so that such service can continue without question. 

Donovan has already had a dynamic career serving in a war zone and the White House, speaking multiple foreign languages and living overseas, holding advanced degrees, and juggling the demands of a two-government career household with children. Donovan’s inspiration comes from being at the center of some of our world’s most dramatic events over the last two decades, directly working with presidents and generals and ambassadors and foreign leaders.
